RimeLedger Privacy Policy
RimeLedger is a smart, private expense tracking application that helps users track, organize, and understand their spending. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Effective date: April 22, 2026
Introduction
We built RimeLedger for a sensitive category: personal finance. Our privacy approach is simple: collect only what is needed, explain it clearly, and give users practical control over their information.
RimeLedger is designed around an offline-first, local-first experience. Expense and transaction data should remain on your device by default unless you choose to use a feature that requires online processing, account access, or cloud backup.
Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you use RimeLedger and which optional features you choose to enable.
- Email address and contact details: We may collect your email address when you join early access, create an account, request support, or ask to receive product updates.
- Financial and transaction information: RimeLedger may process expense records, categories, amounts, merchant names, notes, tags, dates, and similar transaction details that you add, import, or choose to let the app detect. Our product direction is local-first, so this information is intended to be stored primarily on your device unless you choose a feature that requires cloud processing or backup.
- App usage and performance information: We may collect limited technical information about how the app performs, such as feature usage, crash reports, diagnostics, and error logs, when needed to keep the app reliable and improve the user experience.
- Device information: We may collect basic device and app information such as device type, operating system version, app version, language, region, and identifiers used for security, diagnostics, or account functionality.
- Support communications: If you contact us, we may receive the information you choose to share, including your message, contact details, and any screenshots or files you send for troubleshooting.
We do not ask for bank passwords, card PINs, or payment credentials as part of the basic expense tracking experience.
How We Use Information
We use information to operate RimeLedger and provide features that users expect from an expense tracking app.
- Provide expense tracking, categorization, summaries, and related app features.
- Generate spending insights that help you understand your expenses and patterns.
- Maintain your account, early access request, support history, or product communications.
- Improve app reliability, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and understand product performance.
- Send important notices, such as security, support, policy, or service updates.
- Develop optional features such as cloud backup, transaction analysis, or automation only where supported by the app and your choices.
App Permissions
RimeLedger requests permissions only when they support a clear app function. Optional permissions are controlled by you and can be changed through your device settings.
- Notifications: RimeLedger may ask permission to send notifications for reminders, alerts, spending summaries, important account updates, or privacy and security notices. You can allow or disable notifications through your device settings.
- SMS, if offered in a future version: If RimeLedger introduces optional SMS-based transaction detection, the app will request your consent before accessing SMS permissions. SMS access would be used only to identify transaction-related messages and help create expense records or suggestions. We will not use SMS content for advertising, selling data, or unrelated purposes, and you will be able to choose whether to enable the feature.
- Internet or network access: Network access may be used for account features, early access forms, support, app updates, optional cloud backup, diagnostics, or services needed to operate the app.
Data Storage and Security
RimeLedger is designed to store expense data primarily on your device. This helps reduce unnecessary transfer of sensitive financial information and supports private, offline-first use.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards for information handled by RimeLedger. These may include platform-provided app storage protections, access controls, secure communication methods for data sent to our services, and careful limits on who can access operational systems.
If optional cloud backup or account sync is introduced, we will handle that data through trusted infrastructure providers and use appropriate protections for information in transit and at rest. No app or service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to reduce risk and avoid unnecessary exposure.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information, financial information, transaction data, or SMS content.
We do not share your information for unauthorized advertising or unrelated third-party marketing. Information is used to provide, maintain, secure, and improve RimeLedger.
We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate the app, such as hosting, database, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, messaging, or support tools. We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, RimeLedger, or others.
User Rights and Control
You should stay in control of your expense information. Depending on the feature and where the data is stored, you may be able to:
- Review the expense data and account information available inside the app.
- Edit or delete expense records stored in the app, where supported by the product.
- Delete local app data by using in-app controls, device settings, or uninstalling the app.
- Ask us to help access, correct, or delete information associated with your email or account.
- Disable optional permissions, such as notifications or future SMS access, through your device settings.
For privacy requests related to your account, email, or support communications, contact us at support@rimeledger.com.
Third-Party Services
RimeLedger may use trusted third-party services to operate and improve the product. These services may process limited information only as needed for their role.
We currently use Firebase-related infrastructure for parts of our web and early access systems. Firebase or related Google services may be used for features such as hosting, database storage, authentication, messaging, analytics, crash reporting, or future cloud backup if those features are enabled.
If analytics or diagnostics are used, they are intended to help us understand app reliability and improve the product. They are not used to sell your financial data.
Children's Privacy
RimeLedger is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as RimeLedger evolves, new features are released, or legal and platform requirements change. When we make updates, we will revise the effective date on this page. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice through the app, website, or email where appropriate.
